Occlusal Guards

What Are Night Guards?

Teeth grinding at night, known as bruxism, is a common issue affecting many people. The most noticeable effect is the wear on tooth surfaces, but nighttime grinding can also cause tooth pain, headaches, inflammation, and discomfort in the neck and jaw. Dr. Anita Jhangiani provides custom night guards designed to protect your mouth from the consequences of grinding while you sleep. Made from high-quality materials, these guards fit comfortably and help reduce teeth grinding and jaw clenching. What to Expect with Night Guards

Several symptoms may suggest that you are grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw at night. You might wake up with jaw pain, headaches, or facial swelling. To diagnose bruxism, Dr. Jhangiani will examine your mouth and discuss your symptoms. If a night guard is recommended, we will take digital impressions of your teeth to create a custom guard in our dental lab. Once it's ready, you’ll return for a fitting, and we’ll provide care instructions to help it last. For the best results, you should wear your night guard each night, which should alleviate the pain and dental problems caused by bruxism. Sometimes, night guard therapy is combined with other treatments for optimal outcomes.
