Maintenance
Periodontal Maintenance:
Plaque that isn't removed from your teeth can transform into calculus (tartar) within just twenty-four hours! While daily home care is essential for managing plaque and tartar buildup, those hard-to-reach areas will always require extra attention.
After your periodontal treatment is finished, Dr. Jhangiani and her well experienced hygienist will suggest regular maintenance cleanings (periodontal cleanings), typically four times a year. During these appointments, the depths of your gum pockets will be thoroughly examined to ensure they remain healthy. Plaque and calculus that are difficult for you to remove on your own will be eliminated from both above and below the gum line.
Along with your periodontal cleaning and evaluation, your appointment will generally include:
-
Examination of diagnostic x-rays (radiographs): Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss x-rays also help to determine tooth and root positions.
-
Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, cheek tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
-
Oral hygiene recommendations: Review and recommend oral hygiene aids as needed. (Electric toothbrushes, special periodontal brushes, fluorides, rinses, etc.)
Good oral hygiene practices and periodontal cleanings are essential in maintaining dental health and keeping periodontal disease under control!
